The Lord Stanley makes considered vegetarian pub food, not the usual tomato and goat’s cheese tart or mushroom risotto. This is a plate of roast squash with fried polenta, mozzarella and a nut and herb drizzle. If you see any form of savoury tart on the often-changing menu, you must get it.

InRed magazine: Tokyo’s top taiyakis. Other than descriptions and addresses, the data also include featured the fishes’ length and weight. Humorous and dedicated, that’s why Japanese magazines are top for me.

NĂºria, dory and Jason (via contact form) and Welcome Home: Thank you for your links.

Maeko: I appreciate the write-up in your post, thank you for letting me know!

ffion: Thank you. The subject matter certainly helps.

lucie: A lot of time, I felt like getting off the car to take photographs but of course, it’s impossible on the expressway.

Kiki: From Pendleton, I like the blankets and bags. I first saw these scarves on a friend and had to have them. Glad they were still in Portland when I got there.

inky: Thank you, I saw the items while I was in New York.

christie: I saw your schedule – crazy! I hope you’ll find the guide useful and yes, LA pointers would be nice though I’m not sure when I’ll be back. I really want In-and-Out burgers.

rush: Pennsylvania Dutch signs. Look here!

tasha: Love your dad’s dog’s eyes. Gentle giant indeed.

Graziella: I was so stuffed from Momofuku I didn’t want any cakes from Will Cotton. Brooke Shields did though.

Diana, Giovanna and STEFANIE: I’m especially pleased because the left blue muffler is a good match to my blanket.

Yen: I think it is a Singaporean thing. Because it’s cooler to sit on the floor. Now I freeze (but I still do).

July: I like the idea of the collaboration but the silhouettes are not for me. Kapital washed blanket mufflers are nice and sound very warm. Do you know shopping services in Japan? There is a service charge but if you want something very badly…

Ell: It might just be the people I met who are using phones. Human representations can be scary… that’s why I always favoured drawing animals over people when I was young.

Le Pain Quotidien at Marylebone High Street, followed by dim sum at Royal China, and tea at Fortnum & Mason’s? Just guessing! I miss having somewhere like Le Pain Quotidien in Singapore.

  2. lucie says:

love this set :), in particular the teddy bear with the shoe!

  3. Sonia says:

mmmhhh… that sunday dim sum looks delicious. where is it from?

  4. July says:

Oh, wow … what is this Japanese “shopping service” system? It sounds like something I might find extremely useful!

  5. Bardotty says:

Was in Fortnum Mason yesterday for almost 2hrs … I think I’ll be trying The Lord Stanley soon and I’ll be sending some links for Tokyo too. Bx

  6. Brian says:

i really need to get myself to a proper afternoon tea ASAP.

  7. Maeko says:

I need that food, and I need those pastries.

I’m a vegetarian, so I definitely appreciate when others love it when restaurants don’t go the “staple” vegetarian “haute cuisine” route like mushroom risotto and the like. Though I adore risotto.

Unfortunately, afternoon tea is a rarity in the U.S. Well, a lot of places have it, but it’s not something you do alone or for unwinding. It’s a little bit more of an event, like lunch or dinner.

And haha I love the picture of your husband through the handle of the tea tray.

Where did you see the bear eating the stiletto?

  9. Kat says:

amazing pictures. the food looks so good..and the beautiful china. jumper looks so cosy.

  10. Ell says:

Always wanted to try dim sum, but was never brave enough (I don’t really know why, actually). Love the idea of the afternoon tea-lovely ‘equipment’ and the cakes look really nice.(Once I was planning to throw a party and serve tea and cakes and petit fours-let’s say, every cake/cookie/dessert allowed when it has pastel colors- and such. It turned out to be a huge failure-which happens quite often when I’m enthusiastic about something..but my friends were so sweet they ate all up, even my soggy pavlova, and incredibly bitter chocolate cupcake…)

  11. Mausumi says:

I love the jumper! It looks really comfy too!

  12. great teddy bear in the store and the old french car! love all photos

  13. bia says:

  14. Thom says:

I have never thought to put salt on honey…but it makes so much sense now.
