Things from Tokyo

Things I bought…

tokyo
Lavenham Raydon jacket from Decentages; Guttoraku (?) floral jacket

My happiest purchase is a Lavenham jacket in my favourite Liberty floral, Edenham. Although it would seem slightly ridiculous that I have to buy something made by two English companies in Tokyo, the jacket simply does not exist in London. The other floral padded jacket is from a granny undergarment shop in Bakurocho. At ¥735 (approximately £5), this is the cheapest piece of outerwear I will probably ever buy.

tokyo
Shirts from Hug O’ War

And more Liberty florals.

tokyo
Saint James tops

Two more to join my Saint James family. The no-stripe Ouessant is my favourite thing to wear lately.

tokyo
Blue/Blue indigo dye t-shirts from Okura

Seen in Sonya Park’s Shopping Manual III. One in short sleeve, one in long, I intend to wear them layered.

tokyo
Knit cardigan from journal standard luxe

tokyo
Shawl, knit, hat and belt from A.P.C.

Chieko took me to the A.P.C. Family Sale and these are what I got.

tokyo
Socks and tenugui from Isetan

Deer and shiba-inu.

tokyo
Gingko nuts and black sesame paste from Natural House

tokyo
BUNACO plates from kisara; acacia wood plates from MUJI

tokyo
Wooden cutlery from Unico; white enamel cutlery from Popeye Camera; kanehen aluminium cutlery from IUKI – KAHA – NGURENFURE; butter knife from CIBONE

tokyo
Bambi cookie cutter from Unico

tokyo
Tsuki Usagi cups from Sempre; bowls from Unico; Noda Horo bowls from Quatre Saisons; Noda Horo plates from Sempre

tokyo
Enamel toy set from Isetan

Found in the toys’ department but I intend to use them for drinking Chinese tea.

tokyo
mt tape from Tokyu Hands; DYMO tape from Tokyu Hands and Delfonics; VersaCraft ink pad from Tokyu Hands; stamp kit from Delfonics; Post-It from Tokyu Hands; DYMO labelmaker from Delfonics

tokyo
Mayonaka from Eri (thank you!); ku:nel from Tokyu Hands; murmur, bookmark and book from COW BOOKS

Lifestyle magazines to enjoy in the cold, cold days here in London. First edition of Cecil Beaton’s Chinese Album and the bookmark with the best sense of humour.

tokyo
Old spool of silk thread from Suntrap

Not pictured: A woven wool muffler from a vintage shop in Koenji as it is currently in my laundry basket.

Things from people (thank you, thank you, thank you!)…

tokyo
Blouse and hair wrap from mill

Handmade by Akemi.

tokyo
Elephant pen

From the Toriigahara family.

tokyo
Wagashi sweets and snacks

Also from the Toriigahara family.

tokyo
Newsboy bag, ear-pick and postcard set from COW BOOKS

A surprise from Yataro.

tokyo
Catalogue and files from Softbank

Oto-san!

And things for you… (maybe!)

tokyo
Green tea snacks; two towels from Isetan; owl necklace from A.P.C.; Post-It and Zebra Mildliner from Tokyu Hands; bookmark from COW BOOKS

A package to give away consisting of:
- Matcha snacks in the form of Morinaga caramel sweets and KitKat.
- Tenugui, a traditional Japanese cotton towel, but its use is not limited to that. Here are some ideas to start you off.
- Sharing my A.P.C. luck with you with this necklace. Everyone I know likes owls so I hope you will too.
- Zebra Mildliner pens in soft shades because neon highlighters can be such assaults to our vision sometimes! I only just realised that they are double-tipped.
- Mini pastel Post-It to go with the pens.
- I hope you find this bookmark from COW BOOKS as witty as I do.
- And a little mystery!

For a chance to win, please leave a comment on this post to give a suggestion for the blog that would make you happy? It can be anything from a place you’ll like me to visit to a technical feature to add. Or simply an idea for post content. I’m not promising that it’s possible to fulfill every request but am curious to know your thoughts! A winner will be chosen randomly at midnight on Friday 8 January 2010 (GMT, my time). CONTEST CLOSED! RESULT HERE.

P.S. If you are not taking part in the give-away, you can still leave a comment without answering the question.

Replies

LaLa (via contact form): Hello! I still pass by Teo Cafe quite a lot. You are in Shanghai but will you come back to London?

Yen and lucie: Which one?

bollettieri: I think Dieter Rams was personally at the Design Museum during the exhibition opening for a meet-and-greet but I missed it. I’m looking forward to London in May like you, cherry blossoms hopefully. If it’s convenient for you, let’s meet up again!

petoskystone: Oh… has it been long?

Graham Hutson: They are really good-looking and look very well-built.

Raluca: You’re welcome. Happy new year to you!

Alisa: Ah, thank you. I’m sure if you know me better, you’ll realise that I’m just as flawed as everyone else.

Benji: It’s very well put-together and I like that visitors are free to take pictures. Because the exhibits are generally mass-produced products and not one-off art pieces, we can get really close to them. I saw some of Undercover SS10 menswear in a shoot and the Dieter Rams influence is apparent. Some of the current womenswear pieces in the Tokyo store has the flavour too. I see a lot of Rams in Apple too.

BonjourJuliette and EniaIs(Almost)Here: Glad to bring some parts of the exhibition over to you.

editor: I had to upgrade my version of Wordpress so took it as an opportunity to change the design. I’m not finished yet but got bored with it now. Will pick up again soon. Am checking the Super Normal book, thank you!

nico: I really miss the breakfast at GORAKADAN.

i second the suggestion for more recipes but i know how time consuming they are since i seldom include any in my blog. perhaps you could get alison to post as a guest feature.

i really appreciate how dedicated you are to posting and replying to comments, so please just carry on.
